Potty Training, Help!

Toilet learning. Toilet training. Call it what you will, it’s messy and challenging and frustrating and overwhelming. How am I supposed to teach this little one how to acknowledge and feel sensations within their body? I can’t see or hear when they have to go to the bathroom! I am not a psychic that will just KNOW when they have to go and place them on the toilet. How in the world do I teach them which muscles to contract to eliminate?! Can the control of bodily functions actually be taught?! Whew. It’s a lot.

What I want you to remember is helping your child learn to eliminate on the toilet can require an immense amount of patience and consistency. You can not control if or when they actually go on the toilet. You can not control if they make a mess with the toilet paper or pee on your couch or wet the bed when they sleep. They are LEARNING. And as with anything, learning something new can take time. First they gain the knowledge, then they learn to apply the knowledge with action, then they practice the new the skill until they master it. The good news is, there are plenty of things you CAN do to support them in the process as they learn this new skill!

I have created a one page handout for easy reference as you learn how to support your child through this stage of development. I am here to educate and encourage you as your support your child through toilet learning. I am here to celebrate with you as you get to that moment of changing the very last diaper!

If this handout is difficult to understand, book your free connection call today, I am happy to chat through it with you!
